Quick answers

Does Wyoming have permitless (constitutional) carry?
Yes. Wyoming allows permitless carry, also called constitutional carry, for people 18 and older. W.S. 6-8-104(a)(iv) lets any resident of the United States who meets the permit eligibility criteria and may lawfully possess a firearm carry concealed without a permit; those criteria include the minimum age, which a 2026 law lowered from 21 to 18 effective July 1, 2026. (Verified Oct 18, 2026.)
Does Wyoming honor out-of-state concealed carry permits?
Wyoming honors permits from these jurisdictions: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. W.S. 6-8-104(a)(iii) honors a valid statewide concealed firearm permit issued by another state that recognizes Wyoming permits; DCI lists the 35 states above. A Wyoming resident denied a Wyoming permit may not carry under another state's permit, and any U.S. resident who meets the permitless-carry criteria may carry without a permit. (Verified Oct 18, 2026.)
Do I have to tell police I'm carrying a gun in Wyoming?
When asked. In Wyoming you must disclose that you are carrying, or show your permit, when an officer asks. A Wyoming permit holder carrying concealed must carry the permit and identification and display both on request of any peace officer (W.S. 6-8-104(b)); the statute imposes no such duty on people carrying without a permit. (Verified Oct 18, 2026.)
Can I carry a loaded handgun in my car in Wyoming?
Yes. In Wyoming a loaded handgun may be carried in a private vehicle without a permit. Permitless concealed carry under W.S. 6-8-104(a)(iv) has no vehicle restriction, so eligible adults may carry a loaded handgun in a vehicle without a permit. (Verified Oct 18, 2026.)

Duty to inform police

Must disclose when asked

A Wyoming permit holder carrying concealed must carry the permit and identification and display both on request of any peace officer (W.S. 6-8-104(b)); the statute imposes no such duty on people carrying without a permit.

Loaded handgun in a vehicle

Allowed

Permitless concealed carry under W.S. 6-8-104(a)(iv) has no vehicle restriction, so eligible adults may carry a loaded handgun in a vehicle without a permit.

Carrying

Permitless carry

Yes (18+)

W.S. 6-8-104(a)(iv) lets any resident of the United States who meets the permit eligibility criteria and may lawfully possess a firearm carry concealed without a permit; those criteria include the minimum age, which a 2026 law lowered from 21 to 18 effective July 1, 2026.

Permit issuance

Shall issue

The Attorney General's Division of Criminal Investigation shall issue a permit to applicants who meet the statutory criteria, including age 18 or older (from July 1, 2026) and six months' Wyoming residency, and must act within 60 days (W.S. 6-8-104(b), (m)).

Non-resident permits

No

DCI states that non-residents cannot obtain a Wyoming permit; the statute requires six months' Wyoming residency but waives it for holders of a valid permit from a state that recognizes Wyoming permits.

Open carry

Allowed

W.S. 6-8-104 regulates only concealed carry, and Wyoming statutes contain no open-carry license requirement; governmental entities may prohibit open carry in their facilities or on their campuses (W.S. 6-8-105(d)(iii)).

Vehicles

Places

No-gun signs carry force of law

No

W.S. 6-8-104(t) lists the places off limits to concealed carriers (law enforcement facilities, jails, courtrooms, the alcohol-serving portion of a licensed establishment, and places barred by federal or state law) and W.S. 6-8-105(d)(ii) preserves a private owner's ability to restrict firearms, but Title 6 attaches no penalty to ignoring a posted no-firearms sign. A person who remains after notice to depart, given personally or by posted signs, commits criminal trespass under W.S. 6-3-303.

Restaurants that serve alcohol

Restricted

Concealed carry, with or without a permit, is prohibited in any portion of an establishment licensed for on-premises alcohol consumption that is primarily devoted to that purpose (W.S. 6-8-104(t)(vii)); other areas such as restaurant dining rooms are not covered.

State parks

Allowed

State parks are not among the places in W.S. 6-8-104(t) where concealed carry is barred (the former prohibitions for various state facilities were repealed by 2025 Wyo. Sess. Laws ch. 61). Wyoming State Parks rules prohibit discharging a firearm on park lands except lawful hunting more than 400 yards from public-use facilities, and prohibit displaying any weapon in a threatening manner, but do not bar possession.

Places of worship

Allowed

Places of worship are not among the places where W.S. 6-8-104(t) bars concealed carry; private property owners may still restrict firearms (W.S. 6-8-105(d)(ii)).

College campuses

Restricted

Under the 2025 Wyoming Repeal Gun Free Zones Act, holders of a Wyoming-issued permit may carry concealed in public college and university facilities and at public athletic events that do not sell alcohol (W.S. 6-8-105(c)); people carrying without a permit or on an out-of-state permit are not covered, and campuses may prohibit open carry.

Prohibited places

See list

Concealed carry is barred in law enforcement facilities without written consent, detention facilities and jails, courtrooms (unless the judge allows), bar areas of liquor-licensed establishments, K-12 schools for enrolled students, and places where federal or state law prohibits firearms (W.S. 6-8-104(t)). Since 2025, carry is allowed at government and legislative meetings and in public buildings; only Wyoming permit holders may carry in public K-12 and college facilities (W.S. 6-8-105).

Self-defense

Stand your ground

Yes, no duty to retreat

A person attacked in any place where they are lawfully present has no duty to retreat before using reasonable defensive force, if not the initial aggressor and not engaged in illegal activity (W.S. 6-2-602(e)).
