Quick answers

Does Arkansas have permitless (constitutional) carry?
Yes. Arkansas allows permitless carry, also called constitutional carry, for people 18 and older. State law says the licensing subchapter does not require a license to carry a concealed handgun in Arkansas, and carrying a handgun is an offense only with a purpose to unlawfully employ it. Persons under 18 may not possess a handgun. (Verified Oct 18, 2026.)
Does Arkansas honor out-of-state concealed carry permits?
Yes. Arkansas honors concealed carry permits from every state. Arkansas acknowledges all concealed handgun carry licenses lawfully issued by another state; holders get the same privileges and restrictions as Arkansas licensees. (Verified Oct 18, 2026.)
Do I have to tell police I'm carrying a gun in Arkansas?
Yes. In Arkansas you must tell an officer you are carrying as soon as you are stopped or approached, without being asked. A licensee carrying a handgun who is asked by an officer for identification must present the license and photo ID and tell the officer they hold a license and have a handgun. This rule applies to licensees; no equivalent duty for unlicensed carriers was found. (Verified Oct 18, 2026.)
Can I carry a loaded handgun in my car in Arkansas?
Yes. In Arkansas a loaded handgun may be carried in a private vehicle without a permit. No license is required to carry a concealed handgun, and a person carrying a weapon in their personal vehicle is presumed to have a lawful purpose. (Verified Oct 18, 2026.)
